High-Risk auto insurance for speed-drivers

Posted by admin under speed-cars

You can’t drive a speed-car without wishing to test its capacity to the maximum at least once in your life.  When you drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini and other such cars presented on this web site it is impossible to respect the rules of the road despite the fact that this is illegal. What’s the worst thing that can happen to you? Not a big deal actually- may be a fine, some penalty points on your driving license and the in the worst of cases you will spend a few days in prison. That’s the only real bother in fact.  Since you afford to drive a speed car money shouldn’t be a problem for you.
Yet, you were not supposed to drive a speed car in order to have problems and genuine problems start when your family and you really need the car and your insurance company refuses to deal with you because you have become a high-risk driver.
As I did some research about the subject on the web I found a very interesting article about high-risk insurances on Carseek.com . I really think you should read it because it contains many details about this type of insurances and the SR-22 Certification.
Since they are used to deal with high risk divers, insurers who issue SR-22 are more expensive than traditional ones, most of the time.
The SR-22 certification is normally demanded for a period of three years.  Even if it is an expensive high risk auto insurance policy, getting back on the road is essential in order to sustain ones family and live normally.
I definitely not wish for anybody to have to appeal to a high-risk auto insurer just to be allowed to continue to drive, but I am sure that there will be plenty of you who will find this link very useful since it provides you with the best high-risk auto insurance offer.
Have a nice day, and drive carefully.

Corvette ZR1 - American SuperCar

Posted by admin under Corvette, speed-cars

Chevrolet officially announced the 2009 Corvette ZR1 - an American supercar that brings the technology and engineering refinement of carbon-fiber, ceramics and electronics together in a distinctive design.

“Chevrolet’s goal with the new ZR1 is to show what an American supercar can deliver, at a price that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much - and does so with exceptional driveability,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.

“Preliminary testing shows the ZR1 builds on the highly respected Corvette Z06 in every performance category, from acceleration and braking, to cornering grip and top speed,” said Peper. “It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio and the ZR1’s is exceptional - better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini LP640. In fact, the ZR1 is expected to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph.”

Supercharged LS9 Engine

The new LS9 6.2L small-block engine is the power plant the supports the ZR1’s performance capability. The enabler of the LS9’s performance and refinement is a large, positive-displacement Roots-type supercharger with a new, four-lobe rotor design. It is augmented with an integrated charge cooling system that reduces inlet air temperature for maximum performance.

A sixth-generation supercharger developed by Eaton helps the LS9 make big power and torque at lower rpm and carries it in a wide arc to 6,600 rpm, as it pushes enough air to help the engine maintain power through the upper levels of the rpm band - the area where supercharged performance tends to diminish. Heavy-duty and lightweight reciprocating components enable the engine’s confident high-rpm performance.

The LS9 engine is backed by a new, stronger six-speed manual transmission and a twin-disc clutch that provide exceptional clamping power, while maintaining an easy clutch effort. ZR1-specific gearing in the transmission provides a steep first-gear ratio that helps launch the car, and top speed is achieved in sixth gear - a change from the fifth-gear top-speed run-outs in the manual-transmission Corvette and Corvette Z06.

Ride and Handling

The ZR1 is built on the same aluminum-intensive chassis as the Corvette Z06 and features similar independent SLA front and rear suspensions, with aluminum upper and lower control arms. Where the ZR1 differs is the suspension tuning, which was optimized for the car’s steamroller-wide front and rear tires.

Magnetic Selective Ride Control is standard and tuned specifically for the ZR1. The system’s ability to deliver a compliant ride with nearly instantaneous damping adjustments enabled engineers to develop a surprisingly supple ride quality in a supercar that still delivers cornering grip of more than 1g.

Exclusive Exterior

The ZR1 is instantly recognizable, with perhaps the most identifiable feature a raised, all-carbon-fiber hood that incorporates a clear, polycarbonate window. The window provides a view of the top of the engine’s intercooler, with the legend “LS9 SUPERCHARGED” embossed on the left and right sides, and an engine cover with the Corvette crossed flags logo debossed at the front.

The underside of the hood has an exposed carbon-fiber-weave. Exposed carbon-fiber is used on the roof, roof bow, rocker molding and front splitter. These exterior components are protected by a specially developed glossy, UV-resistant clear coat that resists yellowing and wear.

Widened, carbon-fiber front fenders with specific, dual lower vents, and a full-width, body-color rear spoiler incorporating the center high-mounted stop lamp, are also unique to the ZR1. All of the exterior features of the car were developed to enhance high-speed stability and driver control.

Interior Details

The ZR1’s interior builds on the brand’s dual-cockpit heritage, with high-quality materials, craftsmanship and functionality that support the premium-quality experience promised by the car’s performance. The “base” ZR1 (RPO 1LZ) comes with accoutrements based on the Z06, including lightweight seats and lightweight content. The uplevel interior package includes unique, power-adjustable and leather-trimmed sport seats (embroidered with the ZR1 logo); custom, leather-wrapped interior available in four colors; navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and more.

There is no doubt that when it comes to exotic cars, The Ferrari is the most iconic. Even if it is done subconsciously, we compare every engine rev to the sound a Ferrari makes. As a culture, we dream about driving these cars, about having the money to own one, about how much better our lives would be if we sat behind the wheel…but why is Ferrari so popular, and does it live up to the hype?

     Ferrari and Formula One

In order to understand the popularity of Ferrari, one must know the company’s history. It was founded in 1928 by Enzo Ferrari, and originally it manufactured only race cars, and sponsored race car drivers. This continued for nearly twenty years, when the first Ferrari road care was produced, but even then, rumor has it that Enzo Ferrari was concerned that people were buying his cars for the prestige of owning a vehicle so closely connected to the Formula One circuit,
than for the car’s ability to perform well.

In fact, Formula One success may well be the root of the Ferrari’s appeal to the general public. After all, the company debuted in the first year Formula One racing even existed. The Ferrari team won the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix (part of that year’s Formula One World Championship), dominated the 1952 season, and took the championship in the 1953 season, then continued to be highly successful in Formula One racing throughout the next fifty years, and in the early part
of the twenty-first century.

Today, amidst controversy over budget caps for Formula One teams, there is concern that the series may not be able to even survive without Ferrari’s presence, though Max Mosely, FIA president, said last week that in the Financial Times that,  “The sport could survive without Ferrari.” He added, however, that, "It would be very, very sad to lose Ferrari. It is the Italian national team."

    Celebrity Drivers

Even people who have zero interest in Formula One racing still love Ferraris, and one of the factors contributing to that love may be the number of  famous Ferrari drivers. Who could forget watching Tom Selleck driving along the coast in Magnum, P.I., for example, or disagree when Top Gear  host Jeremy Clarkson refers to the F430 as his favorite car. And let’s not forget that famous Ferrari fans include celebrities as diverse as Brigitte Bardot, Steve McQueen,
Wyclef Jean, and Seal.

Clearly, there is a sort of “elite by association” fascination attached to these cars. But do they live up to the hype?

   The 2009 Ferrari F430

If the 2009 Ferrari F430 is anything to judge by, we think Ferraris are worth the hype, and the price. Here are just some of the features of the new model:

    -   Like most Ferraris, it’s largely hand-built.

    -   A personalization program that offers 16 exterior colors, 12 leather colors, and eight carpet choices.

    -   A nearly-flat back window, which allows the V-8 engine to be seen from outside the car.

    -   A specially designed flat underbody which helps off-set the extreme lack of ground clearance.

    -   Long nacelles behind the seats in the convertible version extend into the rear deck of the car, flanking the engine-viewing panel.

    -   Interior customization options that include a choice of aluminum or carbon fiber inserts

    -   A cheery red start button for the engine, with paddle controls for the automatic gearbox on F1 models.

    -    4.3 liter V-8 engine providing 490 horsepower (at 8, 500 rpm) and 342 pounds/feet of torque (at 5,250 rpm).

    -   Choice of a traditional six-speed manual or six-speed sequential manual transmission.

    -   Acceleration from zero to 62 mph in 4 seconds.

Does all this come with a hefty price tag? Yes. The base model starts at $186,925. Insuring  your  Ferrari also comes with at quite a price. But is it worth it? Is any Ferrari worth it? Consider this: when you buy a Ferrari, you are not paying for a mere car. You are paying for the legacy of more than fifty years of Formula One racing. You
are paying for the legendary drivers who have gone before you, both on the track, and on Hollywood Boulevard. You are also paying for the performance that comes with Italian fine-tuning, and a hand-built car. Finally you are paying for the personalization that makes every Ferrari unique.

Power. Prestige. Performance. Personalization: These are the things that make us love Ferraris, and these are the reasons such cars do live up to their hype.

Ford Focus RS WRC

Posted by admin under Ford, speed-cars

The Focus RS World Rally Car, which powered Ford to the manufacturers’ world title in both 2006 and 2007, sports a striking modern livery that took centre stage today at Europe’s largest annual motorsport exhibition. It was also announced that the squad will be named the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team for 2008.

The team’s new driver line-up of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala were joined by Ford of Europe’s new motorsport director, Mark Deans, and team director Malcolm Wilson as they revealed the Focus RS WRC’s colour scheme for the first time.

“The Focus RS WRC has a new, contemporary livery which blends perfectly with the outlook of the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team,” explained Deans. “This is our first full season in partnership with BP and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and their importance to our WRC program is reflected in the team’s new name and their prominence on the car.

“Of course, there is far more to a successful WRC campaign than the color of the car and the name of the team. But in the few weeks since I took up my new role as motorsport director I have seen enough to convince me that we are again capable of being fully competitive in 2008. We have a dynamic, young driver line-up supported by one of the most enthusiastic and hard-working teams in motorsport at M-Sport and I look forward to a year that I’m confident will be a successful one,” he added.

Deans also sprung a surprise on Wilson, presenting him with a replica of the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship’s manufacturers’ trophy on behalf of Ford of Europe. “That was a fantastic gesture and one that I really appreciated,” said Wilson. “It brought back the memories of what a remarkable year 2007 was for Ford in the WRC.

“But that is history and we’re now fully focused on the 2008 season. In Mikko and Jari-Matti we have two young drivers who are hungry for competition but also have experience that belies their years and I’m looking forward to watching them develop further during the season. Abu Dhabi’s Khalid Al Qassimi has a comprehensive program of 10 events in a third Focus RS WRC and I hope to see him gain further in both experience and confidence during the year,” added Wilson.

Ferrari Enzo - Power and Glory

Posted by admin under Ferrari, speed-cars

The Fastest Ever Road Going Ferrari: Enzo

Buyers will be invited to the Ferrari factory to have the cockpit of their car tailored to their specific needs. There will be a choice of four width fittings for both the cushion and backrest of the leather trimmed multi-adjustable Sparco seats. The position of the accelerator and brake pedals can be adjusted fore and aft – and sideways to accommodate drivers who prefer to use left-foot braking.

Base Price: 2002 Ferrari Enzo - Approx. $1,000,000 (last update: 2/21/2007)

Power and Glory

The Enzo Ferrari has the engine in a compartment behind the driver — the mid-engine design that is almost universal among high-performance supercars.

The engine itself, which was designed specifically for this car, is a 366-cubic-inch (6.0 liter), aluminum-block V-12, with four valves per cylinder. It cranks out 660 horsepower at 7,800 RPM, and goes from zero to 100 mph (161 kph) in 6.6 seconds. The top speed is estimated at 217 mph, a speed few owners will ever reach. With a compression ratio of 11.2:1, the Enzo needs some high-octane fuel to run properly — just another symptom of its F1 heritage. A dry-sump lubrication system keeps everything running smoothly.

Despite stripping away many of the comforts associated with luxury cars (the Enzo has no radio), the Enzo is not the lightest car in the world. Its curb weight of 3,009 pounds (1,365 kg) gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 4.56 pounds per horsepower (or .219 horsepower per pound). Here are the power-to-weight ratios* of some of the top supercars so you can see where the Enzo fits in:

  • Chrysler ME Four-Twelve- .295 hp/lb
  • McLaren F1- .251 hp/lb
  • Bugatti 16/4 Veyron- .230 hp/lb
  • Ferrari Enzo - .219 hp/lb
  • 1965 Ford GT40 Mk1- .213 hp/lb
  • Ferrari Koenig 360 Modena- .174 hp/lb
  • Lamborghini Countach- .139 hp/lb
  • Dodge Viper RT/10- .131 hp/lb
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06- .123 hp/lb
  • Porsche 911 Turbo- .119 hp/lb
  • Ford Mustang Cobra R- .107 hp/lb
  • Ferrari Testarossa- .104 hp/lb

*Stats calculated from info at http://www.supercarstats.com

The six-speed transmission is considered manual-only — no automatic transmission is available. However, many enthusiasts argue that in order to be considered manual, a car must have a foot clutch. Since it doesn’t have one, these people prefer to call the Enzo’s transmission “sequential,” or SM (sequential-manual). The term “semi-automatic” is also used.

Almost all of the controls are on the F1-style steering wheel, including the shifting paddles. A series of LEDs on the wheel lets the driver know when the RPMs are high enough to shift, which can be done without removing a hand from the wheel. Other buttons control the selection of gear modes (Sport or Race mode) and a traction control system that can be deactivated.

All that power gets the Enzo from point A to point B very quickly, but European supercars aren’t built to go in a straight line. Next, we’ll look at how the Enzo handles.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Posted by admin under Porsche, speed-cars

RS for ‘Rennsport’ – ‘Motorsport’ in German – is one of the most evocative designations in the history of Porsche. Among its many connotations are precision and performance, each refined to their purest form. The latest example offering all this and more is the new 911 GT3 RS.

Developed for the road by Porsche Motorsport, it is also fully prepared for competition use. Every detail is geared for racing, from the special suspension setup to weight-saving components in the gearbox, rear screen and carbon-fibre wing. The result is an integrated and high-performance concept that continues the long and glorious tradition of Porsche racing cars for the road.

Performance is often equated with power – but never by Porsche engineers. For us, it’s more important to find the optimum balance across every area of the car. A prime example is the new 911 GT3 RS, the homologation model for the 911 GT3 RSR. Designed in compliance with the official FIA-N/GT and ACO regulations, it’s a genuine racing car approved for the road.

North America is set to receive its first production version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Beyond its unique livery, the GT3 RS is distinguished from the GT3 on which it’s based by broader rear flanks and reduced weight, further distilling the driving experience to that of a racing car, but one which meets all the requirements for street-legal sports cars. This purist’s variant of the 911 GT3—a model particularly well-suited for track outings—will arrive in time for spring 2007.

Not since the venerable 1973 911 Carrera RS has such a production Porsche been available in this market. The Carrera RS was a special, lightweight 911 produced to homologate the vehicle for racing. That tradition continues with the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which is modified to serve as the homologation model for a range of worldwide racing series.

The RS’s immediate predecessors have garnered more than 50 victories and five championships in the American Le Mans Series, as well as overall victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The modifications made to the 911 GT3 RS begin with the bodywork. Compared to the GT3, the rear of the RS is 1.7 inches wider, as it is based on the fuller-bodied 911 Carrera 4 models. The muscular-looking rear end conceals a wider track that not only improves directional stability, but also increases the potential for lateral grip on this two-seat coupe.

Despite its specialized body, the Porsche GT3 RS is lighter than the GT3. This weight-saving was achieved through the use of—among other solutions—a carbon fiber composite for the front lid, and an adjustable carbon fiber wing. Modifications on the GT3 RS geared specifically toward race-regulations include the rear wheel carrier, split rear-suspension wishbones, and the carbon-fiber components.

The quick-revving nature and peak output of the Porsche 911 GT3’s 3.6-liter flat-Six remains the same, with the highly-tuned Boxer mill generating 415 horsepower at 7,600 rpm, on the way to an 8,400 rpm redline.

The new 911 GT3 RS will be available in two standard finishes: Black or Arctic Silver metallic. As an option, the GT3 can also be decked out in brilliant orange or green paintwork. All vehicle insignia and the wheels themselves are styled in orange or black to contrast with the body color. The 911 GT3 RS’s interior lives up to the vehicle’s race-derived styling. Internal trim is black, with the roof lining, steering wheel and gear stick trimmed in high-quality Alcantara leather.

The 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS will reach the North American market in the spring of 2007.

Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron 16.4: Superior in Every Sense

After four years of development, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, as it will now be called, is ready for series production. The most exclusive sports car of all time is following in the footsteps of the legendary Bugatti, those universally-coveted limousines and unbeatable racing cars of the 1920s and 1930s which today are among the most sought-after creations from the early days of automobile construction.

This brings to an end the era of design models and concept cars which since the late 1990s have signposted possible paths to the Bugattis of the future. Design and technological concept have finally become reality in the Veyron model’s final form and will be available from the beginning of 2004 as a strictly limited edition of just 300 cars. Technologically futuristic and packed with creative engineering, the first Bugatti of the 21st century has arrived.

Merging the Past and the Future

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4’s home is in Molsheim-Dorlisheim, the French town where, almost 100 years ago, Ettore Bugatti began to realize his lifelong dream of being a car manufacturer. The new workshop is not just where the engine and vehicle are assembled and tested, it is also the place where customers collect their Bugattis and drive them out onto the streets for the first time.

The aim is to turn Molsheim into an all-round Bugatti center once again. While up to 70 new vehicles a year are built by hand in the new facility, neighboring specially-equipped workshops are the scene of expert restoration work on historic Bugatti vehicles. Both past and future have found a new home here.

High Performance

The car’s safety systems have been designed to cope with its extraordinary performance, acceleration and speed. The single-piece carbon-fiber monocoque alone scores maximum points in crash tests, while airbags give the driver and passenger additional protection. The high-speed tires designed specially for the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (for vmax. > 350 km/h), sizes 265-680 ZR500A (front) and 365-710 R540A (rear), incorporate a further innovative safety feature in the form of the PAX System fitted to the wheels and tires, ensuring safe handling even after sudden pressure loss. Another Bugatti Veyron 16.4 component with a safety element is the rear spoiler. As well as providing the necessary downforce during high-speed travel, it acts as a kind of ‘parachute brake’ during emergency braking. Once precisely-defined deceleration forces are registered the spoiler tilts and the additional air resistance this generates reduces the braking distance to that of a lorry.

The Art of the Machine

The W16 alloy engine developed by Bugatti for the Veyron 16.4 will have a special and absolutely unique place in the history of sports car construction. Its design employs the space-saving VR principle with two particularly slender eight-cylinder blocks arranged at a 90° angle to each other.

1001 horsepower equip the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with a level of acceleration unheard of in the sports car segment, propelling it from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and past the 200 mph mark in a mere 24 seconds. Thanks to its 923 lb-ft, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4’s enormous propulsive power is not exhausted until it reaches 252.3 mph (406 km/h): the maximum speed for which chassis and drive train have been designed. Any further performance escalation is limited by current design and construction.

Also unique is the power transmission via an innovative directshift gearbox. Without any interruption in the power flow, the sequential seven-speed gearbox transmits the engine’s power to the wheels via permanent four-wheel drive. Put simply, this means uninterrupted acceleration from a standing start to maximum speed: a feeling previously known only to jet pilots.

Exclusive, Classical, Functional

Both exclusive and highly functional, the interior of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 will transport you to a world of your own. Superb leather, also two-tone if desired, quality metallic trim and beautifully designed and ergonomically laid-out controls characterize the Veyron cockpit.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 instruments, with a large central rev counter surrounded by four smaller additional instruments also conjures up memories of the marque’s legendary motor sport past. The deliberate avoidance of superfluous instruments and modern extras are an unmistakable statement of the car’s uncompromising sportiness.

Unchanged on the series version of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the classical two-tone paintwork. The designers have selected five separate color combinations for the car: Each of the combinations features the bonnet, roof and rear in the darker of the two colors, with the sides and front wheel arches in the lighter color.

1 Million Euro (Plus Taxes) Lamborghini Unveiled at Frankfurt

With just 20 produced, each 1 Million Euro (without taxes) Lamborghini Reventon is a symbol of extreme exclusivity, yet still offering the extraordinary performance that makes the Reventon so unrivalled: under the completely autonomous design, the Reventon possesses the entire technical and dynamic competence of the twelve cylinder Lamborghini.

Born in Santa Agata Bolognese

The Lamborghini Reventon has been entirely designed in Santa Agata Bolognese, the original birthplace of the Lamborghini and the native home of every super car born under the sign of the bull. The design drawn up in Lamborghini’s Centro Stile (Style Center) is fine-tuned in close collaboration with the Lamborghini Research and Development Department. Thus, the Reventon is not only “haute couture” but it also stands out for its elevated dynamism whilst being entirely suitable for every day use.

The Lamborghini Reventon is not destined to remain a one-off. A total of 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it.

The name Reventon has been chosen according to Lamborghini tradition. Reventon was a fighting bull, owned by the Don Rodriguez family. It is included in the list of the most famous bulls ever and is known for killing the famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

Made of Carbon Fiber

Although it is based on the extraordinarily successful Murcielago LP640, the exterior design of the Reventon is completely new. Just like the base model, the exterior is made of CFC, a composite carbon fiber material, which is as stable as it is light. The exterior components are glued and fixed to the body comprised of CFC and steel.

The front is characterized by the acute angle of the central ‘arrow’ and by the powerful forward-facing air intakes. Although they do not supply air directly to the turbine like an airplane, bearing in mind the 650 hp, an abundant volume of air is necessary to cool the carbon brake disks and the six cylinder calipers.

Characterised by Coherent Functions

Naturally, both doors on the Reventon open upwards – since the legendary Countach this has also been a symbol of the V12 Lamborghini product line. With their asymmetric configuration, the large air intakes below the doors provide an example of the extreme coherence with which a Lamborghini fulfils its function: on the driver’s side it is large to increase the flow of oil to the radiator. On the passenger’s side of the vehicle, the air intake is flat because in this case, it only has to ensure the flow below the floor. The aerodynamically optimized flat floor structure terminates at the rear with a diffuser featuring an accentuated shape. This guarantees excellent road grip and stability even at 200 mph.

A Masterpiece with Tested Technology

The technology found in the Murcielago LP640 has not been modified. The engine in the LP640 forwards is the classic twelve-cylinder engine with 6.5 liter displacement. Only for this car, Lamborghini guarantees, an astounding 650 bhp at 8,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). The huge torque, equal to maximum 487 lb-ft, ensures a powerful switch from any number of revolutions: even the slightest pressure on the accelerator is spontaneously transformed into thrust. The robotised e.gear changes gear faster than even the most expert driver. In addition, the permanent Viscous Traction four-wheel drive system ensures that every force is constantly translated into movement.

With the Lamborghini Reventon, Lamborghini has done it again; it has created an unequalled super car; the perfect synthesis between the exclusivity and appeal of a limited edition design masterpiece, and the dynamism and driveability of a standard sports car. Thus, the Lamborghini legend is further enhanced by another, stylish future classic.
